Roulette Rules - Types of Bets
Roulette bets are split into two categories: the outside bets and the inside bets. Inside bets, though harder to win, offer significantly better paybacks than those of the outside bets. While outside bets are placed on given fields on the roulette table, inside bets are not necessarily marked; you need to know the rules. Here are the various types of bets you can make at a roulette table divided into the two categories.
Outside Bets
Column Bet
A bet on one of the three columns on a roulette table; the bet is marked as 2 to 1, mainly because that is what it pays. Depending on the column of numbers you want to bet on, place the chips on the 2 to 1 fields just below that column.
Dozen Bet
A bet on a certain set of 12 numbers; the choice is either 1-12, 13-24, or 25-36. The bets are labelled 1st 12, 2nd 12, and 3rd 12. To make a bet, choose your dozen and place your chips on the corresponding field. Winning dozen bets pay 2 to 1.
Even-Money Bet
There are several fields where you can make an even money bet. They include the high-low bets (1-18 or 19-36), the odd or even bets, and the color bets (all red or all black), all of which have the exact same odds. The winning bet pays 1 to 1 or even money.
Inside Bets
Split Bet
A bet made on two numbers next to each other including 0 and 00. Place chips on the line between the two numbers. Pays 17 to 1.
Straight Bet
A bet made on a single number including 0 and 00. Pays 35 to 1.
Street Bet
A bet made on arrow of three numbers. Place chips on line at the side of the table to indicate this bet. Pays 11 to 1.
Square Bet
A bet made on a block of four numbers (next to each other). Place chips in the center of the four numbers you're betting on. Pays 8 to 1.
Six Number Line Bet
A bet made on a block of six numbers in two rows. Place chips on dividing line at the side of the table to indicate this bet. Pays 5 to 1.
Five Number Line Bet
A bet made on the block of five numbers containing 1, 2, 3, 0, and 00. Place chips on line dividing zeros from the other numbers at the side of the table. Pays 6 to 1.
